The purpose of the VUUNAA - Charlotte Chapter is to support the mission of the Virginia Union University National Alumni Association, Inc. (VUUNAA) by identifying and maintaining relationships with VUU Alumni in Charlotte, NC and surrounding communities. The Chapter promotes fellowship with VUU Alumni, recruits prospective students through college fairs, nourishes relationships with students by servings as mentors, and raises funds for scholarships and other financial assistance from both VUU and non-VUU alumni.
On June 4, 2017, a group of individuals interested in bringing awareness of Virginia Union University (VUU) to the Charlotte, NC region met to discuss the process of starting the Virginia Union University National Alumni Association – Charlotte Chapter (VUUNAA - Charlotte Chapter). The meeting, led by Ms. Nakia Womack (’01), was highly successful and, over the next few months, various individuals volunteered to assist Ms. Womack in completing the required paperwork, developing bylaws for the organization, identifying meeting space, and organizing events. Those individuals, who became the charter members of the VUUNAA – Charlotte Chapter, were Rev. Willetta J. Ar-Rahmaan (STVU ’04), Sabrina Barnes (’03), Teretta Edwards (’01), Courtne’ Harrison Sherow (’05), Eboni Haynes (’02), Brandi Roberts (’03), and Nakia Womack (’01).
VUUNAA – Charlotte Chapter, chartered on February 2, 2018, supports the missions of Virginia Union University and its National Alumni Association by raising awareness of VUU, recruiting prospective students, mentoring current students, providing financial support to the University, and raising funds for scholarships.
